Mayflower 400 Southampton

Mayflower Musicals

In 2017, the Mayflower Theatre commissioned two new musicals and a dance production to be performed on the Mayflower Theatre stage in August 2020 to coincide the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower leaving the city. Due to COVID-19 these productions were not able to take place, but the theatre still offered four groups of young people the opportunity to explore these new musicals in their Mayflower 400 Summer Workshops held at Mayflower Theatre from July 27 – August 7 2020.

Workshop participants and the public also had the opportunity to take part in the online Mayflower Choral project. Mayflower Theatre invited people to make home recordings of four of the songs from the musicals and these have been made into short music videos featuring the young people who took part in the workshops.

The Mayflower Theatre showcased these videos made by their workshop participants as part of Heritage Open Days on September 12th 2020.
