Music Hub Resources – Big Sing: The Journey
Big Sing: The Journey has been a project a long time in the making along with Mayflower Theatre and support from the University of Winchester. The songs for this Big Sing come from 2 new Musicals commissioned by Mayflower Theatre and written to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower ship sailing from Southampton to the New World in America. Workshops were held with local young people in the Summer of 2017 to explore the story of the sailing of the Mayflower Ship 400 years ago. Two brand new one act musicals have now been written which respond to the themes identified by those young people of travel, immigration, journeys, descendants and rebirth.
These songs were performed on Mayflower Theatres stage with hundreds of singers from across the city in March and was the first large scale event to take place in the City’s Mayflower 400 programme. See more on the event here
